On The Other Side (2021)

Single channel video, LCD screen, Dimensional lumber, acrylic paint.

On the Other Side was the first work I made in grad school. Based on the prompt of Zoonosis: A disease which can be transferred from humans to animals, I chose to explore the separation inherent in its definition.

Humans are a part of this world, humans are animals? Why do we make such distinctions and does that distinction help or harm us? Is it healthy as beings that exist as part of a larger whole for us to partition ourselves off from the rest of the world? Does that separation make it easier for us to harm the world around us?

The window was the perfect analog for this separation from nature. It protects us from the elements, yes, but it also keeps nature out and makes us forget our place within it.
